avi clip-"ran out of memory"
I've read several old threads(3-4yrs back) about WMP giving an error message
with C00D11C6 "ran out of memory". I've downloaded an avi clip that gives me
this error and, no sound, no video. Surely after 4 yrs somebody has a fix
for this issue. I'm running an XP OS with Core 2 Duo running at 1333MHz with
3 Gb of RAM and 4 Gb of DDR2 SDRAM cache, also with 128MB NVIDIA GeForce
8300GS....so I CAN'T be out of memory...what gives. I've downloaded a codec
from DivX...6.2 I think, and still no go. Hope I've provided enough info.
I've also ensured the the little check box is set in WMP for "avi" files.
Any ideas....?

Well this is the group for the Mac version of WMP. You might want to
repost in one of the regular WMP groups,

Corentin

Re: avi clip-"ran out of memory"
Hmm is right...I appear to have been premature to appologize for being in
wrong group. I've read all the posts before and after mine and they are all
for Windows systems NOT Mac...I think you are on the wrong page.
Anyways. I've tried several of the download sites for codecs as suggested on
the various threads on this page and nothing has fixed my original problem.
I'm still soliciting ideas...thanks folks.

Re: avi clip-"ran out of memory"
No, he's right - lot of people end up here by mistake, which is why
you see the windows WMP posts and not many Mac ones (the Mac uses
usually post over in the windows groups if that helps !)

GSpot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ is a tool which can do 2 things
- list the codec required for playback of the AVI, and list which one
is actually in use. Probably whatever it is you've got iscausing this
issue (it's generally hard to diagnose) and might be the result of
installing a dodgy codec pack, which most are.

It's worth at least posting the results of the test with GSpot to see
if there's anything obviously broken about that codec.

HTH
Cheers - Neil
