When I try to play avi files on WMP 11, I get sound but no video, how do I get it to play the video portion of the file?

If the video isn't using DivX codec (download and install this to try http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/codec/ ) then you'd need to identify which codec is requred for the video inside the AVI file. GSpot is a program that can identify codec requirements : http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ Post what it reports for the video codec here, and we can probably suggest something to decode the video in media player.
