Transfer of files   

I have transferred my OE from my iBook, with OS 9.2, to my new G4 Powerbook,
using OS X tiger.  The application works fine.  My folders are visible.
However, the files in the folders are gibberish, i.e., cybertalk.  Any way
to fix this?  Some of the files are precious.
