OneNote 2007 Trial - "memory could not be "read"" message
I downloaded the 60 day trial version of OneNote 2007 and am now getting the
message "The instructions at " " referenced memory at " ." The memory
could not be "read.""

Does anyone know how I resolve this problem?
Thank you for your assistance.
Best wishes,
S

Re: OneNote 2007 Trial - "memory could not be "read"" message
That error message means "The program didn't work". It tried to read an
area of memory it did not own, or that did not exist.

If you add the large hexadecimal numbers, you then know at which point in
the computer memory it didn't work. But unless you have a special software
tool (i.e. Unless you are the Microsoft team who wrote the module concerned)
you can't go any further than to say it didn't work.

I suggest that the error is probably caused by either the presence of some
beta bits of Office 2007 still left on your computer, or by a missing
update.

Make sure you have very thoroughly removed any hint of the beta products if
you had any installed.

Then run Microsoft Update until it finds nothing left to update (you may
have to run it three times at least to get that).

Then re-install OneNote.

Like all components of Office and Windows, OneNote is completely dependent
upon various core components. If those components are not up to date, you
get these random crashes.

The other thing that causes it is pirated software. Pirated software often
has modules in it that have been changed to "work around" copy protection.
They do not fully succeed -- if you install something that depends on the
module that has been hacked -- well, you know what happens next :-)

Cheers

Re: OneNote 2007 Trial - "memory could not be "read"" message
Hi John:
Thanks! I'll give it a try. I don't have any software on my computer that
I don't personally own so that means I don't have any priated software on the
computer, right?
Thanks again for your help,
Best wishes,
S

Re: OneNote 2007 Trial - "memory could not be "read"" message
That's a reasonably safe assumption :-)

If you were in South East Asia, you could "pay for" every piece of software
on your computer and still have nothing but pirated software :-)

In other parts of the world, if you paid a full price for it, that's a good
indication that it's safe to use.

I suspect your difficulty is caused by remaining components of the
pre-release version of Office 2007, or by a missing Windows update.

Try fully updating your computer and see if that helps.

Cheers
