SMB & CIFS
When connecting to a Windows resource you can choose to use either smb or
cifs in the address path (or afp if you want). Are there any differeces
between these two protocols? I mean will there be different effects if I
choose one or the other?

Re: SMB & CIFS
Hi,
Afp is apple proprietary protocol.
Smb/cifs are developed by microsoft.

Re: SMB & CIFS
Well... I know that, but the question was if there are any differences
between smb and cifs.

Cifs is a subset of Smb that deals with file transfers. Any
differences likely depends upon the application. I would expect that,
if you put Smb in the address bar, the app will call Smb and then
transfer the file with Cifs.

Re: SMB & CIFS
Alright, then I guess it makes no differnce which protocol I use?

Re: SMB & CIFS
It makes no difference because they are essentially the same protocol.

Re: SMB & CIFS
Hi There,

SMB is a Microsoft redirector which is more of redirector and less of
protocol , please do not get confused with redirector and protocol.

CIFS is based on SMB protocol which means the dialects are used seamlessly.

if you need more info please do reply back .
