I'm working on the same G3 computer with OS 8.6 running that I'm working on in the previous thread. Also, I dl'd the owners manual and see that it has a built in mike, but the setting in the pull tab along the bottom was Mike - None. I had changed it to Built-in Mic and also changed something to accept verbal commands. It was supposed to respond to Save and Cancel. Does it really do that? Or is my Phillopino-Cajun accent just too confusing for it? Does it hurt to just turn off the power? The manual seems to list it on a par with clicking Special/Shutdown. If you are inclined to email me for some reason, remove NOPSAM :-)

Refining my question: I tried pushing the power key, and it gave choices like sleep and shutdown. So of course that is safe. PC's aren't so integrated so the power key is just that, it turns off the electricity. What about with a Mac 63 or other apple product? Is it fully ok to just pull out the plug from the wall? The battery on this one isn't even installed because it is totally dead. With a PC, temporary files that the system will delete when exiting are not deleted if the computer is turned off before Shutting down. And there might have been one or more other things too.
