Delivery Point Barcode
How do I get this field enabled? I'm using MS Office 2004 for Mac

Thanks,

Bob

Re: Delivery Point Barcode
Delivery bar codes have been done away with - unfortunately the dialog
didn't get changed. Word/Office hasn't included them on PC or Mac for
several versions due to problems keeping updated & changes in USPS
requirements. I believe there are 3rd party options available but haven't
investigated the subject in some time.

Re: Delivery Point Barcode
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> It does work in Office 2004. you set it when setting up envelope printing in Tools > envelopes

When 2004 came out it was appropriate to post the bar code above the address which word did. Now the USPS service wants it to the bottom.

The FIM-A is used when you have a mass mailing say to 10-20 individuals
and consist of three vertical lines next to stamp || | This is used by post office to indicate what Batch of Mailings each of these are unique.

Then the delivery point Bar Code. what you do after everything is set up and you click okay you will see an envelope. on screen.

Although they will accept the top printed bar code just just highlight Bar code. Cut and the go to bottom of address and hit return twice.
 Then paste the Bar Code.

below the last item like this.

 XXX, Va XXXXX.xxxx

 |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

If the Post office finds the barcode incorrect they just create their own and paste over top of yours
or scratch yours out and paste theirs at the bottom.

Using the Bar code speeds up delivery of a group of Letters tremendously!!

If your just addressing a letter to your Aunt or Granny then its not necessary.

Its only when your mailing a group of mailings that it is/was and advantage.

Re: Delivery Point Barcode
Yes Phillip, the feature *does* work in Word 2004 but the barcodes it
inserts are *not* in compliance with USPS requirements & *shouldn't* be
used. Even valid codes are only used for large volume bulk rates - inclusion
on individually mailed pieces or even large mailings sent First Class is
utterly pointless. The main reason barcodes were even introduced was to
enable faster handling of volume mailings => discount on postage. Using the
appropriate 9 digit zip is what insures accurate delivery, not barcodes -
the USPS is now using OCR for sorting.

Have a look here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/897290

The codes have not been revised for Office 2004 and the feature was
therefore disabled in Office 2008.

Re: Delivery Point Barcode
You did notice in last paragraph I mention not to use it if just
mailing a few letters.
