Cannot get mail. Connection failed with error -3253
Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: pop

Hello all.

We got a couple of office macs running Entourage 2008, POP access to our email.

These few days we a few of the macs have been getting the SAME error message and one has "recovered" from the problem and OK, one has intermittent problem getting email and last one still unable to check email:

Error
Connection to the server failed or was dropped

Explanation
Could not retrieve mail

Account name: "xxx"

Error: -3253

Unfortunately our IT dept is not very expert in Apple, Macs nor Entourage. So they couldn't really offer any solid genuine help (sad)

So if anybody here has an idea what is going on, please let me know

Thanks and cheers

Unfortunately, this error code is so generic that is has plagued
Entourage users for several years. It simply means the server
disconnected you. Why? Who knows? Could be for one of several reasons
unknown to the end user.

Would IMAP be an option for you? If so I suggest switching to that
protocol. Its benefits outweigh POP in today's high-speed world.

Hope this helps!
