"Silent" crashes
Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

4 or 5 times over the last few days, I have had both Excel and Word just suddenly evaporate. Without warning, the document that I am working on is gone, the program no longer is shown as running, and there is no error message (either upon the crash or upon restarting the application). I have not made any intentional changes to either Office or my Mac recently.

Has anyone else ever experienced this type of crash and, if so, any suggestions on how to deal with it?

Re: "Silent" crashes
Unexpected Quits while in use are typically symptomatic of lacking current
updates and/or needing to repair permissions. Office should be at 11.5.1, so
if it isn't that's the first step. Run AutoUpdate from the Help menu of
either program. Also confirm that OS X is at 10.5.4 and run the COMBO
updater from the Apple site if necessary.

Then run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions, shut down you Mac & see if
things improve when you start it up again.

Re: "Silent" crashes
Thanks for the suggestions. I am at 10.5.4 and 11.5.1, but I hadn't run the disk utility in awhile. Nothing came up in the permissions list that was explicitly related to Office, but I'll see what happens.
