Office 2008 iMac 2.4GHz, OS X 10.5.3 I have a new iMac with a new installation of Office 2008. When I attempt to open an Office application, I get the "MS Office Assistant." Clicking on the "Register" button takes me to a Mactopia page with an eternally-spinning gray circle. There is a previous thread on this problem. The first solution provides a URL <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/install_update.html#fails2>; that page gives instructions on deleting two files. The instructions indicate the precise path for both files. Those files are not on my hard drive in those locations. I also searched for the filenames, and my search returned no results. Thanks for any help!

I've had this asked before and the user was looking in the wrong location. Do you have the Office folder in the Microsoft Office 2008? What about in your preferences folder...do you have the Microsoft --> Office 2008 folder? If not, can you send me a screen shot of your Microsoft Office 2008 in the open position and the Microsoft folder in preferences. Send me an email: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/support_options/email.html> -- Diane
Thanks, Diane. The screenshots are on their way. Patrick "Diane Ross" wrote: > "Patrick Houlihan" wrote: > > > There is a previous thread on this problem. Thank you, Diane. I have resent the screen shots. Patrick "Diane Ross" wrote: > "Patrick Houlihan" wrote: > > > Thanks, Diane. The screenshots are on their way. > > I haven't received them yet. Still have not received. Are you seeing this address when you click on the link? Send to diane at entourage dot mvps dot org It might be a bit before I see them. Off to watch the DNC convention. -- Diane "Patrick Houlihan" wrote: > Thank you, Diane. Yes, and I just double-checked the message in my sent box to be sure. That's the email address I used. "Diane Ross" wrote: > Still have not received. I just sent an anonymous message - anyway here is my problem: @ 2 days ago, and every time I open Entourage, I receive a message marked critical - to install an Auto Update 211. Every time I try to install it another message says that I first must quit all programs - which I do, but it still will not install. It is annoying and frustrating - What should I do? Still nothing and I checked my junk folder. Are you perhaps using your no spam address when sending? There is a limit on attachments, but I seriously doubt your email exceeded it. Try dianeross at mvps dot org If that fails we'll have to use ImageShack. <http://imageshack.us/> How To Post Screen Shots To Newsgroups 1. On your keyboard, press Command-Shift-4. 2. On your keyboard, press the space bar. 3. Click the window you want. A picture file will appear on the desktop. 4. Go to http://imageshack.us/. 5. Click Browse, then navigate to and select the picture file. 6. Click "host it!". 7. Paste the "Show image to friends" URL in a newsgroup message. -- Diane "Patrick Houlihan" wrote: > Yes, and I just double-checked the message in my sent box to be sure. You might be missing the Microsoft Database daemon and/or Office Notifications. Best way to quit all is log out/in with Shift key down to disable all. -- Diane
