81000306, going once, going twice, going on and on and on...   

Ever since I installed Windows XP SP3, my Live Messenger (vs 8.5.1302.1018) 
has not been able to connect to the server. Web Messenger works just fine. On 
my gf's laptop, also with SP3 and LM 8.5, it works just fine.
I've tried everything I could find online: registering the three dll's, 
turning off the firewall (Sygate Personal Firewall), removed all rules from 
the firewall, stood on my head while trying to login etc etc.
Nothing works.
Well, that's not entirely true. Registering the three dll's worked once, but 
then everything went back to 'normal'.

Can someone PLEASE
