Messenger 7.0.1 will not let me sign in   

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Whenever, I try to sign in, it says that my password is invalid or something like that. I created a new account and tried that, but to no avail. So I tried signing in to my old account from Hotmail, but the page is always not displayed. I don't really know how to tamper with the network settings or something like that, but if there's a solution, I did happily try it. I have been deprived from talking to my friends for awhile, let alone using iChat. So if anyone has anything helpful, please feel free to post it, I did gladly take any suggestions. Forgive me if this question seems easy, I'm new.
