command line customization   
Periodically, I remove those silly icons on IE7's command line, but, like bad 
pennies, they reappear from time to time.  If IE7 allows customization of the 
command line, why doesn't it remember the customization?

You're in the wrong newsgroup.

This is the group for the Mac version of IE. You should repost in one of
the regular IE groups.
