Anyone here going to try DDO?
I believe D&D Online is going to release soon, and you can betatest now.
Anyone going to play it? It uses the turbine engine, and graphics are
pretty nice. It felt very much like AC2 in many ways, but used the AD&D
3.5 ruleset for the most part.

I don't know how much the gameplay improved though, since alpha. I suspect
a lot. But like P&P games, this is expected to be played in groups.

Last I read, release was Feb 28th, and the beta events are over. However, I
still signed up in case there was a chance to try it before release anyway.
Haven't heard back yet.

Which "turbine engine"? The one they used for AC2? That's not good news.
:( AC2 was pretty, but it was a dog performance-wise.

Anyway, I'll probably check it out. I like D&D. Might as well see what's
what. Still, I've already got two on-going D&D outlets already (Neverwinter
Nights, and a pnp game), so it remains to be seen just how much more D&D I
need. :)

I've been playing the DDO beta. It's pretty, has obvious elements from the
AC2 engine, but lacks the beauty of AC2. Combat is klunky. I understand it's
beta, but so far I've not seen enough to convince me to fork out bucks for
it. And it's a serious resource hog that eats large amounts of memory. I'm
curious to see how the beta will shape up as it gets close to release.

Well, that's at least consistent with AC2.

It would be surprising if it changes much. Are you saying that as a beta
player, you still have access to the game? I got the impression from the
DDO forums that they had shut down the servers until release.

I've had some fun with it. However, other games currently have my attention so I
haven't spent as much time playing lately.
