i downloaded dx8,9,9c,sdk from microsoft
set the game to administration settings, allow through firewall
downloaded directdraw6.1a from game
opened 2300-2400 ports specified from ms support games
and ports for gamespy.
the game runs great on it's own through vista, except i cannot play online i 
get
"drive path/file of age of empires is not set correctly"
which it is all ati,amd graphics software is uptodate.

any helpful answers some peoples could give?

ok age of empires 2 both does not work on gamespy with vista, they are not 
upto date. suggest igz.com
mouse issue use 640 screen mode on vista, set administrator option on.
display download directdraw 6.1c from age of king site, 7dx,8,9,9dxc
you could play online at "international gaming zone.com"

Does AOK work at all on Vista?  I doubt it since it is a very old
game.

Well if it doesn't, somebody had better sort out a fix ASAP. As I'm not 
gonna upgrade to Vista if I can't play AOK!

Age Of Kings works just fine on my PC running Vista...

Vista is a *downgrade* IMHO.

Yeah, quite a few people don't seem to be happy with it. Will hang on with 
XP for now anyway.

You can use Vistamizer if all you want is Vista's flashy effects.
