Lost Halo 2 Disc
Ok, I got Halo 2 for Christmas, installed, updated, played, and beat it.
Then, one fateful day this weekend, I pressed the "Run Halo 2" button AFTER
INSTALLING A PLUG-IN on the "Halo 2 Map Editor." A dialog appeared asking me
if I wanted to run this plug-in, I clicked "Yes." I waited for a few minutes
and my comp didn't do anything. So, I checked the Task Manager, and nothing
for Halo 2 showed in the Processes tab.

So here comes the problem:

I went to grab my Halo 2 DVD, and it WASN'T IN THE BOX. I looked high and
low in my comp room, but it is nowhere to be found. I tried to e-mail
Microsoft, but the Product ID wouldn't go through. So, is there any way I can
get another disc? Or would it be legal to burn a copy from an .iso image?

My understanding of Microsoft Copyright suggests it IS legal to make a
backup of any legally purchased software, provided you retain the original
packaging and serial number. As an MCP, this is the information we were
given in regards to operating systems.

The Key is your game, that $49.99 you spent, that buys you a key. If you
loose your key or your key gets damaged (shared with friends) then your
game is broken and you have to buy another copy.

FYI, if your key is invalid when you type in the key, that means you are
entering the key incorrectly into your system. Check the Product Code
Label on the Halo 2 Cd-Case and carefully check for spelling errors.

If your key is entering OK, but when Halo 2 goes to "Activate" on the
Internet and it's coming back saying "this key is Invalid" then what
that tells me is you may be using a key you found online, which
Microsoft already knows is online because 100,000 people tried to use
the key at the same time, and so Microsoft has DEACTIVATED that key.
Either that or you have shared your key online, and now it's
deactivated, because the key is only designed to be used on one computer
at a time, as soon as 100,000 people try to use the key, it gets shut
off.

I hope the first solution is your problem. If your game was activated on
your first computer, when you go to activate the game, Microsoft may
say, "This key can't be used again, because it's currently in use on
another system". There should be an option to "Activate by Phone".
Select that and they will give you a 1-800# to call, you just have to
talk to an operator and tell them your old computer died and you are
installing your game on a NEW computer. If your Product-Key is only
activated on one computer they will transfer it to the new computer and
you'll be good to go. Just keep in mind that if someone else tries to
use the key while you're using the key, then it'll be shut off again.

Best-a-luck to ya matey,
