How to get put project version into the application with source safe   

I would like to get informations how to put project verion into the
application. It would be great if there was a possibility to order
source safe to make some extra file with project version and date, then
I could parse the file and put information into the application.

Is it possible to create such extra file with version and date in
source safe?
