VS 2008 Performance Help!
Hello, just wanted to see if there are any additional fixes for speed
problems with 2008. Im running VS2008 with Scott's Hotfixes for
performance. No gain. Whenever I try to compile and execute a very
small asp.net project, it hangs with "Web site found. Waiting for
reply" for about 1-2 minutes. It finally does work, but thats just
wrong. This happens *every* time.

My machine is a little on the slower side, but not bad enough to cause
this problem. My specs:

Processor: 2.3 Ghz Athlon X64
RAM: 1 GB
OS: Vista SP1

The hard drive churns away while this delay is going on...and I may
have not even changed anything. Quite intolerable and will ultimately
force me back to 2005 if not corrected. Any ideas?

More info:

In the Application event viewer, I get some warnings & errors:

Event 1004:
Detection of product '{80C06CCD-7D07-3DB6-86CD-B57B3F0614D8}', feature
'VB_for_VS_7_Ent_28_x86_enu', component '{6E0ABDA7-2696-4EEC-8BB3-
BF3FA376F8AE}' failed. The resource 'C:\Program Files\Common Files
\Microsoft Shared\MSEnv\PublicAssemblies\VSLangProj.xml' does not
exist.

and

Event 1001:
Detection of product '{80C06CCD-7D07-3DB6-86CD-B57B3F0614D8}', feature
'VB_for_VS_7_Ent_28_x86_enu' failed during request for component
'{53B72180-A43C-4BBB-99DA-3985197773EC}'

and

Event 11706:
Product: Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Suite - ENU --
Error 1706.An installation package for the product Microsoft Visual
Studio Team System 2008 Team Suite - ENU cannot be found. Try the
installation again using a valid copy of the installation package
'vs_setup.msi'.

Needless to say, Ill try 11706's recommendation. It looks like this
thing is trying to install something *every* time I try to build a
project, because these errors appear each time a build begins (Ive
cleared the log to confirm).

Might as well detail my progress for others who may experience the
same problems...

Anyway, trying to run setup again to Repair/Reinstall, and the setup
halts with " A problem has been encountered while loading the setup
components. Canceling setup."

Nice. Now I cant even reinstall (or possibly even uninstall?)

Did they even run VS2008 through unit tests before releasing this
thing????

Re: VS 2008 Performance Help!
Managed to get setup running.. nothing special, just created an ISO
image and used Daemon Tools to mount the image. Worked fine.

So now, after all this, it turns out the missing component(s) have
been replaced and no more errors as above are being generated. VS2008
seems to be running as it should. Thinking back, I did at one time
have VS2005 and VS2008 side-by-side, and then unstalled VS2005.
Perhaps it removed some components that 2008 needs. Anyway, there ya
go.
