VSS 2005 remote access question...
I was just wondering if VSS 2005 remote access offers any ability to place
files that are not a part of a VS solution into source control? We have
been using Sourgear's Source Off Site which offers a client application that
can be used to place any type of file into source control remotely. It
seems that VSS 2005 remote access functionality would be a big step down
because it can only be accessed through VS.

Also, it seems that VSS 2005 remote access may be much more difficult to
configure that SOS.

We are trying to decide whether to use:

A) VS 2005, VSS 6.0, SOS 4.1
B) VS 2005, VSS 2005 (remote access)
C) VS 2005, VSS 2005, SOS 4.1

Any input would be appreciated!!

Thanks!

Re: VSS 2005 remote access question...
Craig:

There will be some missing pieces from within Visual SourceSafe 2005's
Visual Studio plugin. For example, you cannot see the history from the
plugin.

In regards to VSS 2005 on the SourceOffsite Server, everything should be
working there, and it should be no problem installing VSS 2005 on the
SourceOffsite Server.

As for SourceOffsite and Visual Studio 2005, VS 2005 changed some
handling of SourceControl components that caused incompatibilities in the
current release of SourceOffsite. This will be fixed in the next
release, currently in Beta.

If you would like more information about Beta testing, please contact our
support department http://www.sourcegear.com/company/support.html
