No, this is not correct.
VS2005 will work if there is a VSS6 installed.
However, you need to select VSS as the active source control provider to get
the File/Sourcecontrol menu.

After you get the scc menus, you can use the
File/SourceControl/ChangeSourceControl to rebind the application to the
existing location (not recommended for web projects)
