problem connecting to VSS via http from VS2005 when unicode setting client PC
Hi,

I'm experiencing a problem connecting to a SourceSafe database from
Visual Studio 2005. The problem is described in the following post

http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showpost.aspx?postid=67519&siteid=1

(cfr three last items) where also a solution is provided.

However, it does not seem to work for me. Firstly, when I change the
International Settings in the SourceSafe client application, the dialog
tells me the setting is changed only upon restart of the application.
But when I restart it, and I open the dialog again, it shows me the
previous setting again (defaulting to Windows setting). So I'm a bit
confused. Is the change applied or not ? Or is there still another
reason why it's not working. Can it be changed via the registry? Any
hints any one ? Oh, and my language for non-Unicode programs is set to
Russian... And I 'm tired of having to reboot my system just to access
SourceSafe... And so are my colleagues...

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Re: problem connecting to VSS via http from VS2005 when unicode setting client PC
Hi,

I'm not very clear which setting is not working correctly for you.

The one that causes a dialog that "tells me the setting is changed only upon
restart of the application" to popup is the language for UI.
Only after restart VSS will show the dialogs in the new language (assuming
you have installed the VSS version localized for that language)
That setting is saved in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SourceSafe\UILanguage, so you can see
if VSS is at least trying to chage that value.
I think there were some bugs related to this setting that were fixed before
the RTM, so if you run an older build you may want to upgrade to the latest
bits.

The language for non-Unicode programs has nothing to do with the UI. It is
used by the integrated Viewer/Diff/Merge windows when displaying or merging
Ansi files.
This setting is saved in your user's ss.ini file, in a string like
Codepage_For_NonUnicode_Files = 0 (default windows).

Anyway, I'm not very familiar with the UI/Ansi settings; you may also want
to post the question on the forums (the dev and tester that worked on the
feature are Russians too, they are likely to know better what's wrong)
