Re: Reg. Dat file corrupted
Hi,

I have done ANALYZE -C -D -F -V4 C:\VSS\Data

Analyze Visual SourceSafe Version 6.0 (Build 8169)
Database analysis in progress @ 11/14/05; 1:23p.
Creating a new nameset, or long filename information, for the file
Ketki_TaskSheet_-_78_-_BalaSathya.
File names.dat may be corrupt
Analysis complete @ 11/14/05; 1:25p
Potentially serious errors or inconsistencies were found.

and i got this error report. like this.. please suggest me how do i proceed
with this..

Regards,
Rizwan

Re: Reg. Dat file corrupted
Well, if you run analyze with the -F flag, the error is probably already
fixed...
There is nothing else you can do - if your file had a name longer than 31
characters, the rest of characters are lost if you had names.dat damaged.

One thing you should probably do is to upgrade to a newer VSS build
(8163/8169 is a 7 years old build).
VSS 6.0d is a free upgrade

Re: Reg. Dat file corrupted
Hi Rizwan,

Running analyze in fix mode is your first chance. Are you sure you run
"analyze -F" and didn't correct the problem?
If yes, you should try upgrading, there might be bugs fixed in recent
version of analyze that might help correcting the problem.
Otherwise, you can only call product support and they should help you fix
the database.
