Display driver problem
After installing, I try the supplemental drivers - upon reboot, I get a black
raster (after the Longhorn logo, etc.) when the non-VGA driver would normally
start up.

I reinstall, and instead install the WHQL nVidia card drivers. Same result.

Currently, I can only get Vista working with the default display driver.
I've tried a few different systems, but my test system is AMD64-2 (dual core)
with a Gigabyte Triton motherboard (nForce 4 chipset) and nVidia GeForce
3400FX card (PCI). Also tried a PNY 600OC board AGP8X on an AMD64 (single
core) 3400.

I'm willing to get other hardware, but I would like a dev test system that
will fully use the new graphics. Any suggestions?

RE: Display driver problem
Haven't figured out how to edit my earlier post...

Its a 6800 OC PNY board, and a 3400FX PCI-Express card, in the two test
systems.

Re: Display driver problem
If you want me to suggest a few graphic cards which will support LDDM,
please try considering the later released graphic card.

For a list of Vista ready graphic cards, please refer to
http://www.nvidia.com/page/technology_vista_home.html

Those listed graphic cards are known to support LDDM.

Regarding your issue, please try using the alpha graphic card driver found
from the above link too. See if you are able to boot into Longhorn using
that graphic driver.

Hope this helps.

Re: Display driver problem
Thank you. The beta drivers did the trick.

Re: Display driver problem
The ATI Video Card Driver's for Beta 1 are even worse! I recently swapped
out my ATI Radeon X300 for an NVIDIA GeForce 6800, and now I am having a
whole lot less (fewer) video problems with Beta 1!

Sincerely,

RE: Display driver problem
Here is how I got my HP Evo D310v working, using the built in Intel graphics
card... I downloaded the Intel graphics driver install program from HPs
website, but the install program wouldn't run. I had to run the program in
compatibility mode for Windows XP. Then it worked.

To set the compatiblity mode, right click on the program, click properties,
click the compatiblity tab, check the "Run this program in compatiblilty mode
for:" check box, and select Windows XP in the drop down list.

RE: Display driver problem
Another good trick to know - I was also unaware of how to turn this on. I
have had *most* 3rd party install programs die - perhaps this will help them.
(VS2005 beta 2 also crashes trying to install...). I'll see if this helps
these installs.
