WMI class behaves different remotely than locally
Why does the query “select * from win32_networkconnection” returns nothing on
remote queries while it works locally? On local test we logged the system
with the same user we tried the remote tests, and we had data only for the
local test. How can we get that data on a remote system?

Tango

Hi Tango,

Is it possible for you to provide a sample project with detailed steps to
reproduce this problem? Thanks.

Best regards,

Hi Jeffrey,

I reproduced it with the use of wbemtest tool included in the Windows XP.

Tango

RE: WMI class behaves different remotely than locally
Hi Tango,

Thanks for your feedback.

Can you tell me what OS you got this problem? Are these two machines in the
same domain?

I have performed some test regarding it:
1. My local machine is Vista SP1 while the remote machine is Win2003 SP2.
2. Both machines are in the same domain and my domain account is in
Administrators of these two machines.
3. I connect the remote machine by using "\\[Win2003 machine
name]\root\cimv2", then I can query the "select * from
Win32_NetworkConnection" and get the result.

Thanks.

Best regards,
Jeffrey Tan

RE: WMI class behaves different remotely than locally
Hi Jeffrey,

It was a user logging problem, we were trying a domain account with
administrators rights in the remote machine, but it was not logged in the
remote machine, so no network connections were created.

Thanks for your help,
Tango

RE: WMI class behaves different remotely than locally
Hi Tango,

Thank you for the confirmation.

Based on my experience, if the remote user logging fails, the wbemtest will
pop up an error dialog, which should be a hint to us.

Anyway, if you need further help, please feel free to post, thanks.

Best regards,
Jeffrey Tan
