ATTN: Chuck Walbourn, need some help.
Hi chuck,
are you a developer? I am looking for some guidance on how to go
about learning to design & / or program games for the XBOX platform.
I know I gotta have Hands-On C programing and am working to better
my know-how on that. Apart from that what else do I need to know?
I thought you can help. I am sorry if I misunderstood.
Thanks.
superdu.

Re: Chuck Walbourn, need some help.
I used to work on games and developed on the xbox, look up the XDK for a
start Direct X is a must, C++ as well (not sure bout c# we always used c++ -
Chuck prob knows more there, you'd need a dev xbox or a 'special' xbox of
some kind if you catch my drift so you can test your apps.

The only diff is the build stage as you have to build an xbe so the xbox
file system can read it but thats it. My advice start by trying to make a
simple app that just puts an image on the screen on the xbox and then go
from there.

The only official public information is linked in this post

http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showpost.aspx?postid=78360&siteid=1

Unless you are a major publisher with a lot of cash you won't even get a
smell of an XDK.

The best thing you can do as a non XDK person is learn C++ and DirectX and
write a damn good game. You will learn almost all the skills you need to
work on an xbox and if then if you can persuade someone to publish it you
would be able to get your hands on the elusive XDK. Even if you don't you
will have the skills and a demo to get a job at a game company that writes
xbox games.

I would also note that by the time you develop such skills as a hobby, the
actual technology in the XDK will likely be obsolete as the next-generation
of consoles is released.

If you want to learn the basics of writing games, there's plenty to learn
with the DirectX SDK that will translate to the XDK and future Microsoft
platforms.

Re: Chuck Walbourn, need some help.
Hello Everyone again,
Thanks for the replies. I am going thru em word bby word to make
sure I havent missed anything. To tell you all the truth. I have
been selected by Microsoft recruitment for a possible position in
XBOX. The thing is , I need to learn everything so I might be able
to get through the final Interview in June. I learn fast so that is
not problem. But I must know what ALL to learn. I can afford a XBOX,
much less MOD one. But I believe that recruiters understand that I
cannot possibly develop anything for XBOX as I would not have access
to that technology. But they will for sure ask me about relevant
ares. Please everyone, this is a little boys dream come true...well
almost. Help me here. I want to start right away. I need a
direction...its all I need.
Thanks again,
Regards,
Jason.

Re: Chuck Walbourn, need some help.
Yes the recruiters and interviewers will totally understand that you don't
have xbox experience.

My advice still stands - you need to know C++/DirectX and as much gaming and
graphics theory as you can. Those are the areas you should concentrate on.

Unless of course you claimed Xbox experience on your resume or CV - then of
course its fair game to ask you those kind of questions.
