Re: Newsgroups Broken?
This is my "Favorites" shortcut to get to the newgroups
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx
I used to be able to choose from selections like 'Enterprise development',
'Office Applications... that broke down into Access, Excel, Word...etc.
I could pick from (I forget the title exactly) Framework... where I could
select things like ADO.NET, ASP.NET Building tools, ASP.NET forms etc...
Now I just get this immense search page with countries on the left hand side
of the page.
Ok, and now when you responded to my question, I clicked on the link in my
e-mail
"Read and Rate the response"
And I get this link (which comes up with a blank page):
http://www.microsoft.com/wn3/aspx/notifauth.aspx?url=http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx%3fdg%3dmicrosoft.public.dotnet.academic%26mid%3d5c438c97-4768-4fb4-a506-0b6a2e356c31
This link is usually the best way to get to my answer, both on my mobile
device and when I'm just checking e-mail at home.--because it takes me right
ot the link which in some cases came from a forum which I do not exactly
remember that I chose (sorry, there are so many)
So, in order to find your answer, I had to type my username in the search
luckilly it is unique enough. Then I had to eyeball through all the
different messages until I found your answer.

I cannot find any source for help with the web interface, and the URL you
provide is the "normal" interface for newsgroups via the web. I realize the
web interface provided is less than ideal, and causes many messages to be
posted to the wrong newsgroups. For example, you've posted to a .NET
programming group, probably without realizing it.
I can offer you a permanent solution to your problem. Set up a news client
and access the Microsoft public newsgroups through the NNTP. Available new
client software includes Outlook Express (in XP), Windows Mail (in Vista) or
Windows Live Mail (available as a free download from Microsoft), plus third
party products such as Agent. You can then set up a free account for the
Microsoft public news server (msnews.microsoft.com) and for any news server
your ISP may provide. Using a news client, you can easily "watch" any
questions you post and be automatically notified when answers appear.

Re: Newsgroups Broken?
But now that I've complained about it - all of a sudden everything works.
That's odd. This is the first time in a long time that it actually worked
on my mobile device.
It is a worthwhile suggestion to use Outlook Express or Windows Mail etc...
however, you already have a great tool that works no matter what computer or
mobile device I have access to. It's nice to be able to take advantage of
it's diversity.
I'm glad that it is working again now. It sure would be nice to figure out
what was wrong so that I could point it out if it happens again.
