Try a repair install of XP to restore the defrag utility. To do a repair
install, insert your original XP CD in a drive with XP already running, then
(carefully) follow the prompts.

Re: Diskeeper removed, now no Windows Defrag
My HP Pavillion (bought Feb 06) came with XP installed and no original CD. I
made a backup myself on a DVD. Can I do it from that?

I have no idea, as I don't purchase computers from vendors who refuse to
supply OS distribution media.
To get additional answers, I suggest that you post in a group dedicated to
XP:
To find the group you need:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?guid=1080912A-26C5-7040-AFDD-2224A4FEB3EA
Then open your language in the TreeView on the left, scroll down to
"Windows", open and scroll down to "Windows XP" and
look for an appropriate group there.

Re: Diskeeper removed, now no Windows Defrag
I bought it at Best Buy and they said none of their computers came with OS
disks anymore, and since several of my friends told me that they had found
the same thing, while buying from different vendors, I thought this to be
true. I was told last year by a MS support tech that you could purchase a
copy of XP, but it would cost around $350, so I did what he recommended and
made my own.
Anyway, thank you for your time and assistance, and I appreciate your
pointing me toward the Windows XP area.
