Mixing
Hi, I am wondering if I need to buy a mixing desk for my PA system, or could
i run my PA system through my laptop, and put a mixer on there, or run
through Fruity Loops, cakewalk etc?

Thx

Re: Mixing
Hi there,
You can do it both ways, but it depends how pig PA system you need. If you
choose to do it throu laptop you will have to get yourself an iterface that
will allow connection between amplifier and laptop through USB or FireWire
port. Then you just plug mic into it and loop the software with winamp and
you got nice and easy way to manage everything. But I'd say that getting a
mixing desk would be better idea. 1st of all you wont have to switch between
windows to do operations like equalisation or boosting. As well if you will
start in future some bigger business Mixing desk will give you more
capabilities.
At the end I will say that the best way to do it is to connect hardware and
software way of doing it by purchaising Digital mixing desk which will allow
you digital connection with computer by any port or expansion card giving
you both real-time digital mastering and just sipmle use of many
potentiometers on the desk
Thnx

Re: Mixing
I would suggest, also depending on how much PA (wattage/ohms/etc..live/home
studio)a simple thing like an Low cost Behringer,Allen and Heath,or any
mixer, with USB or FIREWIRE. Be sure to take into consideration simple
things, that can get overlooked, Phantom Power, grounding, wether or not you
need a power amp, Compressors eq. ( Hardware or software-Many of the smaller
portable mixers come with software, and the mixers themselves will have
effects, etc..).and On the same agreement with Marek: Outboard hardware
is-sometimes-less finicky, if you're going live, you want something that isn't
going to freeze, or anything. having the pots and knobs and faders also has
an asthetic to it, like playing any insturment, the differance between
playing FOR people and Creating For Yourself first and them second, can be a
pan here, a fader slide there, and can animate your music.
