Hi all I've been spending the last couple of days getting my Xbox (original, not 360) set up as a media centre extender to my Win XP MCE 2005 RU2 laptop. After a few hiccups, I have got it sorted to a point where the media centre menu loads up on the Xbox, and I can navigate through with no worries - I can also see the files which are on my computer. I can view pictures fine, but whenever I try to watch video files or Live TV (or Recorded TV) I run into issues. I am getting a mix of "Video Error" and "Application Failure" errors. Everything works fine when viewed on my PC. One related question: all my decoders on my PC are fine and MCE compatible, hence MCE working fine on my PC. Do I need to have compatible decoders on the Xbox also, or does it stream the decoded files from the PC? Anyone have any suggestions? Please let me know if you need any further info. Cheers, Jon
To answer one of your questions... You don't have to install a decoder on the Xbox. -- Jason Tsang - Microsoft MVP Find out about the MS MVP Program - http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/default.aspx "downhilljon" wrote in message news:74B15416-8F4B-48D9-9B55-2DE3B9CBF851@microsoft.com... > Hi all > > I've been spending the last couple of days getting my Xbox (original, not > 360) set up as a media centre extender to my Win XP MCE 2005 RU2 laptop. > After a few hiccups, I have got it sorted to a point where the media > centre > menu loads up on the Xbox, and I can navigate through with no worries - I > can > also see the files which are on my computer. Alright Jason, thanks for that. At least that clears up one theory I had. Am still confused about why nothing video related is working!!! Hopefully someone out there has a suggestion!
