When I get to the point in the wizard after entering my zip code to download the data, it just stalls on the first dot of the progress guage. I let it run all night an never finished. This ocurrs no matter what tuner card I use. I have tried a Pinnacle 800i and a new purchased Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 pci card. I have tried clearing out the data files in the ehome folder in the ALL USERS folder with no luck. It appeared to stop downloading guide updates around the 22nd. Any thoughts on what to try next? I've disabled the firewall and virus protection (Eset NOD32) and that doesn't work. I may try to uninstall and see if that works but I'm at a loss. I'm on Vista SP1 Premium HELP! Thanks in advance. Tom
Let me make sure that I understand you correctly. Up until June 22nd your 32 Vista Home Premium SP1 system had no trouble updating the EPG for your digital OTA tuner card. When it stopped updating you manually deleted files in the ehome folder and tried to reconfigure MC for your zip code. You have also tried using a different OTA digital tuner code. You have not yet tried changing to a different nearby Zip Code Also you have not yet tried using the application software that came with your tuner card such as WinTV from the Hauppauge Website for the 2250 card. Are all of the above assumptions correct? Correct for the most part. I have installed and tried the WinTV app from Hauppauge and that works just fine. I miss the use of the program guide in MCE. I tried another zip code with the old card but will try another nearby zip code with the new card tonight and see how that goes. If you manually deleted files from the ehome folder you may need to restore them from your recycle bin before you try changing Zip codes when totally reconfiguring MC TV "SoxFaninVA" wrote in message news:FD418D48-3B4F-4EB6-9C2D-C1396312AD7B@microsoft.com... > Correct for the most part. turns out it was indeed either my antivirus (NOD32) or malwarebytes preventing MCE from updating. I removed NOD32 and disabled malwarebytes and MCE was responsive again. I reinstalled NOD32 and MCE still worked. It's amazing how AV programs can render legit programs useless! One other question. Can MCE tune in both clear QAM and analog channels at the same time? In my testing I could only get one or the other but the Hauppauge software allows for both sets of channels to be setup simultaneously "Walford" <nobody@socal.nospam> wrote in message news:eTYA#Fq#JHA.1608@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > If you manually deleted files from the ehome folder you may need to > restore them from your recycle bin before you try changing Zip codes when > totally reconfiguring MC TV > > "SoxFaninVA" wrote in message > news:FD418D48-3B4F-4EB6-9C2D-C1396312AD7B@microsoft.com... >> Correct for the most part. Since MC in Vista Home Premium SP1 does not support clear QAM I am confused. I am fully aware of that but you never stated that your were running the TV Pack 2008 version of MC instead of MC that came with your Vista system. Since TV pack is not available or supported directly from MS I suggest that you contact the OEM vendor that you obtained it from A better solution especially if you just got TVpack from some Website and not from an authorized MS OEM vendor would be to install the Windows 7 RC1 release "SoxFaninVA" wrote in message news:3AD09EA3-D0F9-4F99-9739-EAB294FACC83@microsoft.com... > It does if you have the TV Pack 2008 installed. > > "Walford" <nobody@socal.nospam> wrote in message > news:OO#kLlx#JHA.4944@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> Since MC in Vista Home Premium SP1 does not support clear QAM I am >> confused. >> >> "SoxFaninVA" wrote in message >> news:5536900E-1D7B-41D8-B678-6AB2E5D14ECB@microsoft.com... >>> turns out it was indeed either my antivirus (NOD32) or malwarebytes >>> preventing MCE from updating.
