Here's another doozy deficiency in WLM. When reading newsgroup messages in OE one only had to read them once. Messages were marked as read in other newsgroups after they had been read once in another watched newsgroup. That does not seem to be the case in WLM -- other copies of the same message in other newsgroups are NOT marked as read. Is there some arcane setting in WLM that must be made to correct this annoying, perfidious and time-wasting deficiency? Thanks... -- DSH Lux et Veritas et Libertas Vires et Honor
Works for me. I first read your message in microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress where it got marked as read. When I went to microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop the message was already marked as read and hidden since I hide read messages. I had to show all messages to find your message and reply to it. If in Tools, Options, Read you have checked to download xx messages at a time, uncheck that. It's always been problematic, even in OE. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "D. Hmmmmm... I only want 50 messages to download at a time. I never had trouble with that in OE -- for 50, 100, 500, 1000 messages and so forth. Depends on whether those multiple-newsgroup posts are cross-posted or multi-posted. If cross-posted, reading in one newsgroup will get the same article in another newsgroup (which is a link back to one message shared across multiple newsgroups) to be marked as read - as long as you have the option enabled to do so. If multi-posted, each copy is a completely separate message so reading one is unrelated to reading a complete different message despite the similarity in their content. Your post is not an issue with Outlook Express which these newsgroups discuss. I don't have WLM installed anymore. For questions on how to configure WLM, go ask in the WLM newsgroup: microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

The get XX headers has always been one of those flakey things in OE. It may work fine or may cause problems. If you go back through the OE newsgroups, you'll see posts from time to time of people having trouble with it. It's worth a try unchecking that option to see if the cross posting is handled better in WLM. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "D.
