IEAK/CMAK problem ... please help ...
Hi everyone,

after two days of messing with the connection manager administration kit
I am desperately seeking help to solve the following problem:

I need to preset a full DUN/VPN connection to my corporate network via
the internet in a way that a user cannot see or change any settings. To
achieve this I am using the connection manager provides with Windows
2003 server.

unfortunately I cannot get that damn thing to remember my internet
provider username and password, though I preset both of them in my cms file:

[connection manager]
InternetUserName=<my ISP username>
InternetPassword=<my ISP password>
RememberInternetPassword=1

When I connect to the Internet I get a failed connection because of an
authentication problem. When I open the Internet authenticastion tab
under "properties" I see the correct username preset, and an empty field
for the password, and "remember password" is checked. If I enter the
correct password manually, I get a connection.

Furthermore through trial and error I found that deinstalling the DUN
connection leaves any old saved password ISP intact, obvoiusly it is
stored somewhere in the background outside the DUN connection and
therefore survives a de-installation of the DUN connection that created
it. Probably my cmak Installationr refuses to save my ISP password
because it finds an old password from a previous installation??? Is
tehre any way to find those damn passwords anywhere and clear them to
see wether my suspicion is true?

Any help welcome, I need this damn thing done ASAP...

RE: IEAK/CMAK problem ... please help ...
Hello Armin,

I am having this exact same issue with the Internet Password not being
present. Are you using Connection Manager 1.3? Also, I found this article
which sounds like it may be relevent (or at least point us in the right
direction): http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;148925

Only problem is, with my Connection when I go to properties I do not have a
Networking Tab present?!?! I'm assuming this is a "feature" of CMAK, either
that or I have a bigger problem than I first thought!

On that note, does anyone know how to show the Netowrking Tab on a CMAK
Connection, or change networking settings whilst creating the Connection
using CMAK 1.3????

HELP!!!!

Yes, I use 1.3 (from a 2003 server CD)

Don't think that this article is useful, it looks like Windows 98 stuff
(.pwl files - never saw such a thing in NT). I have found a different
lead that looked **really** promising: MS-KB 893609 "Preset connection
manager credentials may not work in Windows XP" looks exactly like it
would match. I have ordered the Hotfix, and tried it, but it doesn't
change anyting.

I think that what you mean are network settings (like the athentication
  and encryption protocols supported ...?. You may specify them when you
run through the cmak. There are two menus where you specify a kind of
"service profile": one for the tunnel connection, and another for the
underlying DUN connection. Both do suppoort an "edit" buttin where you
can make your choices. You may also change the .cms file if you want,
the format is pretty straightforward to read.
