duplicate email when leaving a copy on server
Hi, my client uses WinXP, but with OE version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2
Build 2600.

He has two PC that needs to access the same POP3 email account for incoming
emails, both PC uses OE, and has the same setting of "leaving a copy of mail
on server".

Recently his OE client started to get confused and incoming emails are in
duplicate, triplicates, etc. Restarting the PC cannot help. I am not able
to find any specific KB article in relates to this issue, any ideas? TIA!

This is all but impossible, Jin. Tell us more about this and how he came to
be running OE v5.1.xxxx in WinXP SP2?

For the duplicate problem, see

Re: duplicate email when leaving a copy on server
It's not OE5.1 on an XP system, but rather the info that Winver returns when
run from Start/Run. <G>

Might want to look into the possibility that the POP3UIDL.DBX file on both
machines may be corrupt and deleting both copies with OE shut down might
solve the problem.

Re: duplicate email when leaving a copy on server
Thanks PA and Jim!

I checked with my client again over the phone, and this time we found out
that he is not using OE, he is on Outlook 2000 SP3 -- OK, at least it's a bit
more close to reality. :-)

But the fun doesn't stop here -- now he is not able to locate the
POP3UIDL.DBX file on neither machines! I have walked him through over the
phone about checking hidden files and folders, still not finding it. I tried
it on mine and located it under "Administrator" folder, but for my client,
under "Document & Settings" he doesn't have an "Administrator" folder, only
has "all users" and "johndoe" (his local user account).

So any suggestions on what I could try now? TIA!

Re: duplicate email when leaving a copy on server
Outlook doesn't use POP3UIDL.DBX. That's unique to Outlook Express.
