Re: Lost messages in Inbox
Hi Zel,
You shouldn't need to purchase my program (www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/) . You should get an output of eml files in a directory from the other program, I think, although I have not used it. Try searching for *.eml and see if you find them. If you do, then you should be able to drag them back into OE as indicated below.
DBXtract will extract the entire message, including attachments and all. An eml file is an entity that contains all the contents of a particular message.

Steve and Frank..Still does not seem to work. The extracted messages are not saved in a windows explorer directory but only displayed in the program listing. At this point Steve I am ready to purchase the $5 program. Would you please point me to the URL? When your program extracts messages does it also extract the associated attachments as part of the message vs as a separate document? Thanks for all your help. Zel

You should have bought my $5 program. It has explicit directions on how to get the messages back into OE:
After extraction, the eml and nws files can be reincorporated into OE as follows:
1. Create a new folder in OE and then open OE to that folder so that the blank header list is visible.
2. Open Windows Explorer to the directory containing the eml and nws files and select the files you want to reincorporate into OE.
3. Right click on the selected files in Windows Explorer and hold the mouse button down and drag the files over top of the header list in the open OE folder and release the mouse button.
4. OE will then reincorporate the files into that folder as messages.
<G>
You can also do it the way Frank suggested and just drag it to the folder list, but this is easier.

Re: Lost messages in Inbox
Hi Steve:
I finally figured out the program. Under "edit" "preferences" there is a working drive box (which was blank) and a target folder box (which was also blank). So I filled these in.
In addition what makes the program confusing is that even though the messages are extracted in the program window they are not sent to the specific target folder until you right click on the messages and choose one of a number of options (extract email only, extract attachments, extract email and attachments; extract selected email; extract selected attachments, extract selected email and attachments). I used "edit" "select all" and then extracted selected email and attachments (in essence all the info that was extracted).
The problem with the program, which is why I asked you the question about your program per being able to keep attachments with their associated emails is that this program separates all the file types. So yes..the extracted info is now saved in the target directory and the target directory I specified in "preferences" can be accessed by Windows Explorer but the files are all separated into separate *.nws; *.pdf; *.doc, etc. files (There are no *.eml files but if I drag a *.nws file into an OE folder it looks just like an email (*.eml) BUT there is no attachment with it at the times that there should be. There seems to be no way to "reassociate" these attachments with the emails that they belong with. So, if you can confirm that your program is able to do this then I would like to purchase your program. Thanks again for all your help.....Take care......Zel

DBXtract (DBXpress is better) will extract the messages in their entirety as eml files including all attachments. You can then drag them back into OE and have the full message restored to OE.
If you want to remove attachments (which you don't), you can then get my OEX program.

DBXpress works with DBX files in Win9x. What it won't do is disk mode,
finding deleted messages that are no longer in any file. That requires
Win2K, winXP or Win2K3

Re: Lost messages in Inbox
Frank:
Thanks for the info. I was able to get the previous program to work by just
copying the email messages to a new OE folder rather than all the files that
were extracted. When copied the email messages contained the attachments
that were extracted by the program as well. A long journey to get these
emails back....Thanks to you and Steve for your help. You guys are GREAT!
Take care.......Zel
