I am having a problem with IE5.5 SP2 on a Win 95 machine. English language web pages sometimes display as a screen full of 3/4 fractions instead of text. If I manually change encoding from western European to central European the page will display correctly until I click another link then the problem returns. If I use encoding auto-select it doesn't help. Any ideas?
You shouldn't use auto select anyway, it is problematic (to put it nicely). Stick to Western European. -- __________________________________________ Sandi's Site has changed - for instructions on how to find old URLs, go here: http://msmvps.com/spywaresucks/archive/2005/05/14/46971.aspx Hyperlinks used to ensure advice is current Sandi - Microsoft MVP since 1999 http://inetexplorer.mvps.org Visit the Internet Explorer Community http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/default.mspx "Bill B." wrote in message news:rdrha15eiqh31t1cb6rhf5d991lvkp8ari@4ax.com... >I am having a problem with IE5.5 SP2 on a Win 95 machine. It doesn't matter if auto-select is on or off, the browser will change from Central to Western with each link I click on the page and the problem returns. Is there any way to force the browser to stay on Central? Thanks.
This is getting into complicated stuff, and I barely grok Western European fixes let alone Central. Do a search of MSDN online for the encoding type in question and you may get a hit for the registry settings/files that may be corrupt/missing. -- __________________________________________ Sandi's Site has changed - for instructions on how to find old URLs, go here: http://msmvps.com/spywaresucks/archive/2005/05/14/46971.aspx Hyperlinks used to ensure advice is current Sandi - Microsoft MVP since 1999 http://inetexplorer.mvps.org Visit the Internet Explorer Community http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/default.mspx "Bill B." wrote in message news:rj6ma1dr624gafojtn2uqhngvbbtberu7k@4ax.com... > Problem is, the pages will not display correctly with Western > European.
