Hi,

We have recently got Microsoft Office XP on our computer, but before we
were using Microsoft works. I use Word as my main word processor but
when I download attachments (ie in hotmail) it opens ion Works rather
than in Word.

I know this is something to do with changing the HTML editor by going
to tools under Internet Explorer, but Microsoft Word isn't a choice.

I don't mind so much about the documents already on my computer being
in'Works' format, but any future e-mail attachments, etc, I would like
Word to open.

Does anyone have any ideas?! very frustrating!

Sorry- I hadn't seen your previous answer, many thanks! Just tried
doing that, though when I try to open it, I am prompted to

Explorer", and I'm unsure of what to enter- tried 'Microsfot Word' but
it tells me that I am using an 'invalid path or characters'.  Any
ideas?

I am at a loss as to how you didn't see my answer, as you replied to
it, but we can skip that for now.

You enter the path in normal path format. I don't have Office XP on
this machine but it should be something like:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE10\WINWORD.EXE
(with no spelling errors)

If uncertain, then check for the path of Winword.exe or look in
Windows Explorer-Tools-Folder Options-File Types at the association of
..doc files (Microsoft Word Document)

Before you do all this.... You asked for how to add an HTML edit to IE
and I told you, but that may not really be what you want. Does a .doc
file open in Windows Explorer if you double-click it? If not, then
make sure in File Types that opening in Word is the default action.

Alan- I am sorry if i have been unclear or not followed the 'rules' of
the group, re. quoting previous correspondence, but am unsure in these
things.

Regarding your 'Windows Explorer' tip, I am not sure how to do this.

All I literally want to do is make sure my e-mail attachments from
hotmail open in Microsoft Word instead of Microsoft Works. I tried
downlaoding the script you suggested but unfortunately that did not
solve the problem. At the moment I cannot select 'Word' when I got to
'Tools', 'Internet Options', 'Programs' and 'HTML Editor'.
