Network problems after July update
My system just completed the July 2008 update for win 2000. After the
required restart I have no access to the internet or to the network accessed
print server. All of the other computers have no problems.

System consistes of a DSL connection with a linksys router and wirless
gateway. The other computers all work fine wheather wireless or wired
connections (one win 2k , 2 XP pro, and one wireless laptop with XP pro.

I have been umable to idnetify what has changed, but I get no internet on
the main machine. Strangly enough, I can log onto the router via the browser
ingerface, I just can't see the world through it!

Any ideas to try?

Thanks

I uninstalled the update and rebooted and browsing was restored. Look for
update KB951748 in add/remove programs and remove it.

Apparently, according to AT&T tech support, this "security" update will
disable browsing unless you lower your security settings. I have been told
Zone Alarm is a problem, which I use, but rather than disable my firewall,
or lower my security settings, I uninstalled the so called "security"
update. Now things work fine. However you will have to disable the automatic
installation of updates after you uninstall, otherwise MS Update will try to
reinstall it automatically.

MS web page for this update says nothing about the problem they have created
as of yesterday.

Does anyone know whether they plan to patch their patch, or do we just have
to hide that particular update and go to manual updating in the future to
protect our computers from the protection?

Thanks, I was ging to try that when I got home this evening. I thought the
security settings looked different but I could not confirm.

As far as the auto updates, they have always been on manual download and
update.

If this fixes my problem, thanks. otherwise I will be back.

ps:

I hope they don't role this into a future "service pack".

The uninstall cleared the problem!!

My sysetm then sent me a message that I had an update waiting to be
downloaded and installed. So I went to the micorsoft update page and asked
for a custom update. When it showed the list, I clicked on the checkbox to
disable this update. Seems to be working as the flag went away.
