Hello All, Anyone know why a Win 2K pro pc all updates , keeps wanting to install 832483 MDAC update? It installs, the update say it installed succesfully, but if auto update is on it will reinstall again a few mins. later. If you go to the MS update site & scann for updates it wants to install this one. Thanks for any ideas MMJII
I have two Windows 2000 SP 4 machines. One is showing the same behaviour you describe with 832483 and the other with 891861 (Rollup 1 for W2000 SP4). I don't know whether there is a connection, but this only started since I started using the new Microsoft Update service, rather than Windows Update and Office Update services. Richard
I have no problems here, Win2k sp4 I believe 832483 was included in KB911562 update of 11th April Perhaps you might want to try the MDAC component checker http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=8f0a8df6-4a21-4b43-bf53-14332ef092c9&displaylang=en "Richard Austin" wrote in message news:e4hc4g$4tc$1@yarrow.open.ac.uk... > I have two Windows 2000 SP 4 machines. My problem with the 832483 system appears to be resolved. Rather than using Microsoft Update or Automatic Updates, I went to www.microsoft.com/downloads and saved the patch to disk. Restarting in Safe Mode and running the patch I got an error message saying that it was trying to update a newer component. I used Add/Remove Programs to remove a later MDAC fix, then successfully re-ran the patch, still in Safe Mode. After that neither Microsoft Update or Automatic Updates want to reinstall 832483 again. Unfortunately the same recipe has not worked for 891861 (Rollup 1 for W2000 SP4) :-( Regards Richard
Thanks for your input, and ideas. MMJII "Richard Austin" wrote in message news:e4jvlr$hmh$1@yarrow.open.ac.uk... > My problem with the 832483 system appears to be resolved. For those who are interested, my problem with 891861 (Rollup 1 for W2000) wanting to install itself again after a 'successful' install was resolved as follows. 1. Remove all Windows hotfixes via Add/Remove programms (yes it look ages). 2. Switch off automatic updates. 3. Visit Microsoft Updates site. Richard
Thanks for the info, I'll try "Richard Austin" wrote in message news:e4scc0$4gb$1@yarrow.open.ac.uk... > For those who are interested, my problem with 891861 (Rollup 1 for W2000) > wanting to install itself again after a 'successful' install was resolved as > follows. > > 1.
