Hi I have a server currently having dhcp and wins on win2k platform. 1) Is there a procedure - How to migrate a WINS Database from Windows 2000-based WINS server to a Windows 2000-based WINS server 2) How to migrate a DHCP Database from Windows 2000-based server to a Windows 2003-based server 3) Is there any post scripts or step to determine Wins and dhcp server successfully migrated. thks
Hi These two articles should do the trick. How to migrate a WINS Database from Windows 2000-based WINS server to a Windows 2003-based WINS server http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;875419 How to move a DHCP database from a computer that is running Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003 to a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;325473 When I migrate these, I normally just visually check that the databases contain the usual records. I'm not aware of a script to test this. The most important things to remember are that you update DHCP with the new WINS server addresses and check that all machines are pointing to at least one valid WINS server. Also, if you are using DHCP relay (RFC 1542) on your routers/switches, then this may need to be updated to reflect the new DHCP server address.
