windows 2000 networking
I have several Win2K machines on my network, along with a few Vista and XP
machines. All of the PC's can see each other and access any shared folders
with the exception of 1 machine. This one is a Win2k machine. It can see all
of the other machines and access them. All of the other machines see that
this 1 PC is on the network, but cannot access its shared folders! Any
suggestions of where I can look 1st? I have not changed any of the metwork or
security settings on this machine any differently from the other Win2k
machines, All are wired Ethernet connected. Any guidance would be gratefully
appreciated!

Re: windows 2000 networking
Hello Dave M.,

Is the machine in the same workgroup as the others? What are the error message
when you try it?

Best regards

Meinolf ,
All computers re in the same workgroup. The only message I get is "the
network path is not found" but the shared folders on this machine are
configured exactly the same as the other win2k machines.

Usually through network neighborhood, but sometimes \\computername\sharename.

Re: windows 2000 networking
Meinolf,
All of the settings for the nics are the same on all my win2k machines. I
can see all of the other machines and their shared folders with the problem
machine. All the other machines see the problem PC on the network, but just
can't access it. Is it possible that the ethernet cable is screwy, of if it
works in one direction, should it work in both directions? This problemkinda
came up all of a sudden, that's why I am asking about the cable.. I don't
have a spare 75 foot one, so before I go and purchase 1, I thought I would
ask a few more questions. Your patience and advice are greatly appreciated!!:)

Re: windows 2000 networking
Hi Meinolf,
I found the problem! I am running McAfee, and when the security center
update loaded, it defaulted to network settings that only allowed outbound
traffic. When I put iin the IP address range for my network, everything
worked flawlessly.. But thank you very much for your help and guidance. It is
truly appreciated!
