DDE problems in Windows 2003 Server
We are having problems getting DDE communications to work correctly
under Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server Edition. Everything is
working correctly when logged in as a user with administrative rights,
but things fail when logged in as a "nonadministrative" user. What
steps are necessary to enable a nonadministrative user to sucessfully
utilize DDE communications when working in the Windows Server 2003
Terminal Server Edition environment?

Re: DDE problems in Windows 2003 Server
I have no specific info for DDE, but for all of these permission
related problems, download FileMon and RegMon from
http://www.sysinternals.com/. Run them as administrator (when no user
is connected), start a TS session as a normal user and try to run the
application.

FileMon and RegMon will show you all "access denied" errors that
occur, so that you can give your users the necessary permissions on a
file-to file or Registry subkey basis.

Re: DDE problems in Windows 2003 Server
Thank your for your response. I will forward your suggestions
to our client and see what results they can achieve. (They had
already tried some of what you suggested, but there might be
something in your response that will help them to get further along.)

Re: DDE problems in Windows 2003 Server
The problem turned out to be an attempt to access a value from the
registry. It turns out that our third party software vendor wrote
code that accessed a registry key as part of the things they did to
wrap the basic DDE functionality into a Delphi component.

When we granted read access to that registry value, things then worked
OK.
