printers in terminal services.
We use terminal services to run an corporative aplication based in a Windows
2003 server.

We have two remote locations where users run this aplication by terminal
services client.

We couldn“t print from this aplication to local printers in those location.

The first remote PC has an HP laserjet 1160 printer conected to USB port,
because the paralel port is used with a label printer. How could us remap
this printer?

The second remote PC has a Canon multifunction fax/printer conected by
ethernet printer server. How could us remap this printer?

Re: printers in terminal services.
The HP LJ 1160 shouldn't be a problem. Redirection of USB connected
printers are supported, assuming that you use the latest rdp client
(which is included in XP).
Check the local printer port on the client. HP is known to create
custom ports (usually called DOT4) for some printer models. If
that's the case, you need to apply this:

302361 - Printers That Use Ports That Do Not Begin With COM, LPT,
or USB Are Not Redirected in a Remote Desktop or Terminal Services
Session
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302361

The Canon printer is going to give you more problems.
I'm pretty sure that there is no native printer driver for it on
the Terminal Server, and multi-function printers don't work very
well (not at all in some cases) on a TS.

Check the EventLog on the TS when this client connects. You will
probably find an Event telling you that the server doesn't have a
driver for this printer.
Do *not* install a 3th party printer driver on the Terminal Server,
unless it is a Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) signed driver.
Many non-WHQL drivers are not TS-compatible, and some are known to
crash your printer spooler or the whole server. In stead, map the
printer to a native driver by creating a custom ntprintsubs.inf
file, as described here:

1105, and 1106
