I'm trying to use remote desktop with windows workgroup but my account is not avaliable in remote desktop user account. I have a home work group setup between a XP and Vista machine. When I try to add my Vista user account to remote access on the xp machine the work group is not listed. How can I add the work group so that I can add my Vista account to the list of permissable account that can access remote desktop.
If your trying to access the XP machine from a Vista machine you either need to login with Remote Desktop [RDC] using an existing account on the XP machine or add a user on the XP machine with the same user ID and password as your Vista machine in the control panel - user account function. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/winxp/accounts.mspx If the user is an admin account your good to go. If the user is a limited user account you add them to the Remote Desktop Users Group. Click the "Select Remote Users" button. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/getstarted/enableremote.mspx All RDC access is using accounts local to the XP machine. Likewise if your wanting to access the Vista machine with RDC from the XP machine. -- Al Jarvi (MS-MVP Windows â Desktop User Experience) Please post *ALL* questions and replies to the news group for the mutual benefit of all of us... Is it possible to set up the account solely for remote desktop. When I turn on the machine I wish to skip the account log in screen and log in using a default account. Is this possible? Thanks. You can use TweakUI (on an XP machine only) and this KB article to setup auto login. Personally I think its a security risk. http://tinyurl.com/5u9787 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281262/en-us -- Al Jarvi (MS-MVP Windows â Desktop User Experience) Please post *ALL* questions and replies to the news group for the mutual benefit of all of us...
