Frequent chkdsk requests
As of recently my computer would frequently try to do a chkdsk scan when the
computer is turned on or schedule one when I try to defrag my harddrive. I
have a 160GB Western digital harddrive with XP installed on no partitions. I
figured it may something to do with the large graphic files I move around and
the system restore back up that I already disabled. Device manager says the
hardware is working properly so I don't really know what is causing the
problem now.

Any enlightenment on the issue is much appreciated, these chkdsk scans are
getting really annoying.

Thanks

Re: Frequent chkdsk requests
Hi Xylent,

This happens when the "dirty bit" that determines if the volume has to be
checked for some reason keeps on.

The way to solve it is boot from the XP cd and selec "boot with recovery
console", then execute:

chkdsk /r /f

Or use the tool chkntfs.exe that was designed to turn off the automatic run
of chkdsk in volumes.

Hope this helps,

Luis.
