Inspiron connecting to a switch/router   

Using A Dell Inspiron 1520, I can't connect to the console port.  There is no 
serial connection on the lappy.  Does anybody know how to get around this?

Serial RS-232 is rapidly becoming obsolete.  If you need serial RS232,
purchase a USB-to-Serial  or a  Ethernet-to-Serial adapter (Terminal 
Server).
