Firefox????
Can I have IE and Firefox installed at the same time? Using them at
different times, of course.

And... is Firefox better than IE?

Just curious... thanks for your help

Re: Firefox????
Sure you can use both, aside from a prompt to make it your default
browser they can co-exist on the same PC. I use both IE and Opera.

Re: Firefox????
You can have both installed on the computer at the same time and you can
use both of them at the same time if you want. Is it better? To a
large extend it's more of a matter of preference than one being better
than the other, try it and if you like it then use it, if you don't like
it then use IE.

Sure. You can have several browsers installed at the same time. It is
common for anyone designing and coding web pages to have at least 4 or 5
going at the same time. There can be only one default browser but all of
them will work just the same. The only real problem seems to be in trying
to keep multiple versions of the same browser working on the same machine
-- they don't get along well together and without heroic efforts a newer
version of a browser will generally damage a previous version of the same
browser.

Better is relative and subjective. None of them are perfect and none seem
to be approaching that state. It gets especially sticky when web pages are
designed (or should I say cobbled together?) to work with only one sort of
browser.

Using Firefox may cause your cat to develop warts. If you don't have a cat,
you should be okay.

Sure, but there's no "of course. You can even use them both at the
same time.

> And... is Firefox better than IE?

That's like asking whether a Ford is better than a Chevrolet.
Different people have different opinions. My personal preference is
for neither, but instead for Maxthon, which is actually a shell
running on top of IE.

Try them all, and decide for yourself which *you* like best. Nobody
else's opinion matters.

Yes, you can have multiple browsers installed to your OS.

Utilizing another browser application can add to the overall security of
the operating system.

You could consider disabling all Security Settings in IE and use IE only

I use FireFox for all Internet based browsing and IE for my
internal/company browsing. FireFox has not failed me.

Once in a great while there is a site that won't work with FireFox, like
many Microsoft sites.

	Yes, certainly.

Or even at the same time,if you like.

To the non-technical eye, there's very little difference between the
two, now, other than the "look and feel" of the interface. It's almost
entirely a matter of personal taste, now.

A very helpful and informative post. Not wishing to gripe too much, I've
just discovered that archaic backup which comes with WinXP - must date back
to Noah's Arc. So one might ask why! On another note since this is XP
general, how do you find Opera Mail please?

WinXp backup is good for files and data; For more comprehensive back-up
functions use a good 3rd party software package like Acronis, Casper or
NortonGhost etc.

Adequate for my purpose.

That's ArK. ;-)

  So one might ask why!

Cause they don't need to change it.
