I was conducting a search on my HP win xp media center personal media drive. All of a sudden the computer shut down with my Media Drive still connected. When it came back up search no longer worked on the media drive or on the computer's C drive. (I only have one hard drive). The following message appeared on bootup: http://tinyurl.com/6gjok9 I then Googled and came up with the following: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how_do_i_reinstall_the_search_c.htm Problem is I don't have the complete OS cd's for the HP Computer...it comes with the recovery disks. When I find the Srchasst.inf file and click "install" I get a message that I need the file "msgr3en.dll" on windows xp professional service pack 2 CD. I also have a Dell with Win XP on it. I mention this in case it would be of any help in extracting files. Please help! Thanks in advance. Would it be useful for me to purchase Win XP Professional edition to help with situations like this? HP computers don't come with the complete OS....I don't know any computers off the shelf that do. Would I be better off buying a custom made computer for the future?
