Re: Adding New LUA Pool to TN3270 Service
Thank you.
To unassign the LUs from the TN3270 service so that they will only be in the
pool, do I have to delete them and add them back? Or is there a simple
'unassign' option that I'm not seeing? When I deleted them from the
service, it changed the icon of the LUA in the pool, so I thought maybe I
was doing something wrong.
The app I'm using (Zephyr's Passport Web to Host) seems to let me specify a
specific resource name and properly connects to it when it it is an LUA, but
doesn't seem to be able to connect to the resouce name when it is the name
of the LUA pool, so I may need to change my approach on this anyways. (Not
expecting you to have the answer to the Passport question. I'll see if
Zephyr has anything on that)

Re: Adding New LUA Pool to TN3270 Service
Gary,
To remove a LU or Pool from the TN3270 service, you need to "delete" it.
This only removes the resource from the TN3270 service. It does not delete
it from the HIS configuration. The icon for the LU will changed back to the
standard LUA icon even when the LU is assigned to LUA Pool that is then
assigned to the TN3270 service. The Pool should have an icon that looks like
two computers when assigned to the TN3270 service.
Regarding Passport, I don't recall any TN3270 applications that can't use a
pool name as the specific resource name instead of a LU name. It is possible
that they expect the resource name that is configured to be the same as the
name that is returned from the TN3270 Server. In the case of a pool, the
TN3270 Server receives the pool name and then replies with the name of the
LU that is selected from the pool.

Re: Adding New LUA Pool to TN3270 Service
Thanks for all the help Stephen. It looks like I finally have success.
Everything sems to be working, even using the LUA pool name as the resource
name. The only concern, if I can call it that, is with some of the icons
now showing next to the LUs.
Here is the process I followed to get this to work.
1. Create new LUA pool BLDG1.
2. Delete LUAs E082, E083, E084 from TN3270 service.
3. From SNA Service [Active] -> Connections -> SNA1 [Active], assigned E082,
E083, E084 to BLDG1 pool.
4. Assigned BLDG1 pool to TN3270 service.
5. Saved configuration.
The icon for the BLDG1 LUA pool shows up as two computers in both under the
TN3270 service and the pools. In the list of SNA1 connections however, the
icons for the LUAs (E082-E084) now show up as a generic icon and not not the
usual LUA icon. The icon displayed is the simple 'window box' -- a square
with a blue bar across the top.
Since it's working the way we'd like, I'm not going to back everything out
simply becuase of the icons, but is this how the icons should be displayed
after following the steps above to remove them from the TN3270 service and
assign them to a pool?
Thanks again.

Re: Adding New LUA Pool to TN3270 Service
I apparently spoke too soon.
When I got to the office this morning, two users who should have known
nothing of the existence of the BLDG1 pool were connected to the two LUAs
defined to it. I double-checked and I did in fact remove those two LUAs
from the TN3270 service, so they should have only existed in the pool (and
the overall HIS configuration.)
I suppose I could restrict the users who can connect to this pool via IP
addresses, but I am wondering why other users found this pool and were able
to use up the all the LUs defined to it despite not having anything
directing them to the pool.
Is it because there were no IP restrictions, essentially rendering this pool
as a wide open set of LUAs which anyone could access, whether they knew it
existed or not?
Should I have stopped/started the SNA and/or TN3270 service anywhere in this
process of the creation of the pool and the assignment of the LUAs to the
pool?
Thanks.

Re: Adding New LUA Pool to TN3270 Service
Thanks for the information. I've changed the display type to specific and
added in IP address restrictions, though since we use DHCP they had to be at
the subnet level and not the specific IP. I'll see how things look this
morning.
