Incoming E-mail limits
Dear All,

I have a problem with my Exchange server 2003 SP2 on my Win2k3 SP1. My
problem is with my incoming e-mail restriction, on my SMTP Virtual Server on
Exchange there is a limit set to 5MB, however I'm just eable to send mail up
to 5Mb but not receive, the maximum which I can receive is 3MB, for all the
other I'm geting SMTP Error (state 12): 552 4.3.1 Message size exceeds fixed
maximum message size, which is a NDR from gmail.

Any ideas why is this happening??

Thank you

Bujar Lushta

Re: Incoming E-mail limits
Hi,

What are the global limits configured in this exchange organization?

Is there a SMTP server between the internet and the echange server where
limits might be enforced?

Re: Incoming E-mail limits
Dear Leif,

My global settings are set to 4MB, well as far as I know the global settings
affect only internal mail exchange of a size of 4MB, well this should not
affect the 5MB limit on my SMTP Virtual Server with 5MB limit.

To answer your second question I'm using ISA 2004 firewall with Message
Screener enabled which has the same limit of 5MB, the same configuration as
on my SMTP Virtual server under Exchange. What I did so far I increased the
Message size on my SMTP virtual server and my SMTP Message Screener to 8MB,
and now I'm not getting anymore the NDR with exceeded message size but this
one below:
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

postmaster@kosovo-mining.org to me

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

      BLushta@XXXX-XXXX.org

Final-Recipient: rfc822;BLushta@XXXXX-XXXX.org
Action: failed
Status: 5.2.3
X-Display-Name: Bujar Lushta

It seams that the Exchage is exepting the mail but than it sundenly refuses.

Sincerely

Bujar Lushta

Re: Incoming E-mail limits
Dear Leif,

I found the mistake the global setting under receive where blocking messages
greater than 4MB and my test mail was 4.1MB that’s way it was refusing the
mail.

Latif one more question: can you tell me what is a recommended number of
Limit number of Connection per Message under my SMTP Virtual Server. I
believe that the default setting which is 64000 is a to big number, are there
any recommendation for this number???

Regards

Till know
