Installing new Exchange 2K server to replace old 2K server
It is time to replace my old Exchange 2K server. I have another W2K server
on my network with Win 2K SP4 and all the currect updates. Both servers are
DC's with a single Domain environment.

My existing E2K server was installed clean 3 years ago no upgrade.

I installed E2K on the new server and received this error:
Sub-component COM+ raised an exception while processing the
OC_COMPLETE_INSTALLATION setup message.

...\csetuputil.cpp (line 3419)

Error Code = 0x8007007f

Refering to the microsoft knowledgebase I was able to reinstall the COM+ and
resolve this error but when I reinstalled I received another error below:

Setup failed while Configuring registry entries for Information Store
Service (error 0x80072030: There is no such object on the server.)

When I reboot the server I no longer had my Information store or SMTP VS's

I tried to uninstall but every attempt has failed.

I have tried every MS article I have found concearning these erros but
nothing has worked.

I tried to reinstall and get the same error and end up with out an
information store or SMTP VS.

Where to go from here???

Thanks for any help.

RE: Installing new Exchange 2K server to replace old 2K server
More Info:

I removed Exchange manually as per MS article # 160378. and was able to
reinstall but I still received the original error.

Sub-component COM+ raised an exception while processing the
 OC_COMPLETE_INSTALLATION setup message.

 ..\csetuputil.cpp (line 3419)

 Error Code = 0x8007007f

Could this be caused by having the FP 2002 server extensions installed
instead of the 2000 server extensions?

This error apears to be a result of not creating the registry entries. Can
I create the entries manually? If so What should they be?

In addition I have .NET 1.1 installed could that be part of the problem?

Thanks again for any assistance!!!

Re: Installing new Exchange 2K server to replace old 2K server
Hi Eddie,

Do you have MS04-012 installed on the server? There was a case where this
update needed to be reinstalled to correct the problem you are seeing:

828741 MS04-012: Cumulative Update for Microsoft RPC/DCOM
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=828741

Cheers,

Re: Installing new Exchange 2K server to replace old 2K server
Thank you so much for your response Eric!!!

I reviewed the article you refered to and check my server for this update.
I did not see it in the ad / remove programs. I do have SP4 and the SP
rollup installed would it it have been in the rollup? I keep all my servers
up to date with the Windows update service. This server was an application
server for and application called Encompass. Durring the install of
Encompass the .NET 1.1 was installed on the server. Could that cause a
problem?

Over the weekend I have done a lot of studying and created a test
environment to create a process that will allow me to install Exchange 2K. I
can completely reinstall this server. All the services it provided have been
moved.

1. I have removed Exchange as per MS article # 160378.
2. Demote the server to a member server and remove from AD and the network
"In Process"
3. Reinstall W2K server with only the services this server will need for
Exchange.
4. Run SP4 & SP4 rollup and all updates.
5. Make sure all servers are in Native mode including my Exchange 2K server.
6. Run dcpromo to join domain as a peer server.
7. Install & configure DNS.
8. Install Exchange 2K
9. Install Exchange SP3, SP3 rollup and all updates.
10. Test the install then move my mailboxes.

I can leave the old server up for about 30 days while I move my Intranet to
its new server. After that move all FSBO's to the new server redirect my smtp
traffic. Remove Exchange, demote and retire the server. Maybe not in that
exact order but you get the idea.

I think this will get me to my objectives. What do you thnk? If you have
any insights or can provide any information that will help me through this
process please do!!!

Thanks again for your assistance!!!
